A FAIR DEAL FOR THE MOTORIST

Justice for over-taxed motorists

This campaign is seeking endorsement of some proven principles in its drive for a fair deal for the motorist.

·       The government should show respect towards Britain's motorists. In particular, it should restraint over tax rises, as motorists are taxed several times over for the service that they receive.

A greater proportion of our taxes should be invested in road maintenance to the benefit of all road users; and in particular, engineering out dangerous and vehicle-damaging hazards.

·       The focus of road safety should shift to prevention of accidents through better education, especially driver training and encouraging consideration for all road users.

It should use more police patrols to deal with dangerous drivers.

·       There should be an objective approach to legislation – from economic, environmental and other points of view - so as not to undermine respect for the law.

·       Privacy should be protected through abandoning plans for road pricing and intrusive vehicle tracking technology. The government should not hold journey footage long-term without specific reason

·       Traffic flow should be improved through maximising the use of road space and setting realistic speed limits.
