A FAIR DEAL FOR THE MOTORIST

Encourage road safety through education, engineering and enforcement

A ‘fair deal’ vision involves letting people drive legally at a safe speed for the conditions, on roads that are fit for purpose.

For far too long, the government’s emphasis has been on controlling speed, even though other factors are more often found in accidents.

REAL ROAD SAFETY can be achieved by a more enlightened programme of proven approaches:

Promote education, considerate and responsible behaviour from all road users

Invest in engineering out hazards like potholes that impact all road users

Enforcement against drugged, drunk and dangerous driving

EDUCATION

Prevention is better than cure! Change the focus to skilled driving and responsible road user behaviour.

ENGINEERING

Help to prevent road accidents through engineering out hazards. Reduce driver fatigue and distractions.

ENFORCEMENT

Cut reliance on cameras. More police patrols to deter drugged, drunk and dangerous driving.  Laws that are respected.
