A FAIR DEAL FOR THE MOTORIST |
A ‘fair deal’ vision involves letting people drive legally
at a safe speed for the conditions, on roads that are fit for purpose. |
For far too long, the government’s emphasis has been on
controlling speed,
even though other factors
are more often found in accidents. |
REAL ROAD SAFETY can be achieved by a more enlightened programme
of proven approaches: |
EDUCATION Prevention is better than cure! Change the focus to skilled driving and
responsible road user behaviour. |
ENGINEERING Help to prevent road accidents through engineering
out hazards.
Reduce driver fatigue and
distractions. |
ENFORCEMENT Cut reliance on cameras. More
police patrols to deter drugged, drunk and dangerous
driving. Laws that are respected. |
